HIGHLAND PARK / BALCONES WEST HOMES
Highland Park / Balcones West Homes
What used to be one of Austin’s hidden gems has been discovered and has become one of Austin’s most sought after neighborhoods.
Known as Highland Park-West Balcones, this neighborhood actually comprises several little neighborhoods, and has been consolidated into one association by neighbors over time. Located just off of 35th Street and west of MoPac, with boundaries of Mount Bonnell Road and R.R. 2222, Highland Park-West Balcones offers spacious lots with sprawling old oak trees, breathtaking views of Lake Austin, and close proximity to downtown and every convenience you can imagine. Whether hanging out with the majestic peacocks at Mayfield Park suits your fancy, or climbing Mount Bonnell to take in the stunning view of Lake Austin and the 360 Bridge does the trick, residents of Highland Park - West Balcones have some of Austin’s most beautiful parks right in their backyard - literally. Driving through the neighborhood, you may travel on Balcones Drive - a lovely street whose tree-covered estate-sized lots and grand homes make it one of central Austin’s most coveted locations. The steep hills here attract hardcore cyclists seeking a challenge, or maybe it’s the hope of catching a glance of Tour de France hero, Lance Armstrong, who also calls Highland Park - West Balcones home. Because of its desirability, many empty nesters who have been in the neighborhood for decades are choosing to stay and upgrade their homes, joining those who are new to the neighborhood, who are either starting from scratch or doing considerable remodeling on theirs. Though most homes are traditional, recent remodels have brought a few new contemporary styles, as well as Mediterranean. Home to families, empty nesters, and elderly residents, Highland Park-West Balcones neighbors look out for one another and even call each other friends. Despite its growth, the neighborhood feel remains as neighbors gather together for movie night at close-by Perry Park in the summer, and again for the 4th of July Parade and Picnic. Accessible to downtown and MoPac, with every convenience at your fingertips, along with a few local natural treasures, Highland Park- West Balcones is one neighborhood that will continue to impress for generations to come
