Notorious for Awesomeness! Austin Area Events - July 2013

KGSR Blues On The Green - Every other Wednesday thru August 7 - Free - Music starts at 7pm. Arrive early for easy parking. Bike or carpool if you can. You may bring your own snacks and beverages in an ice chest. Bring a blanket, chair, maybe a fun flag, and a little cash if you want to try some of the local food vendors.

Sound & Cinema at the Long Center - Wednesday, July 17: Back to the Future featuring live music by HELLO WHEELS, playing hits from both the 1950s and 1980s before everyone’s favorite time-traveling feature. In addition to the featured entertainment, visitors can enjoy dining from Food Truck favorites including Frank, Blue Ox BBQ, Whole Foods, and more, all of which will be set up on the Terrace.  Beer, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for sale by the Long Center. Guests are also welcome to bring their own non-alcoholic drinks or food to picnic on the lawn.

  • The Food Trailers will be open by 7pm, and the sunset concerts will begin at 8pm each evening.  The movie will immediately follow (after it gets dark).
  • What you CAN bring: Folding chairs, blankets, personal coolers (non-alcoholic beverages only), food, friends
  • What you CANNOT bring: Alcoholic beverages, drugs, weapons or anything illegal, dogs or other animals

Free car2go valet parking! Please consider reducing traffic congestion by taking a car2go, biking, walking, or ride-sharing to the event. car2go parking will be available for all events at Long Center main entrance on Riverside.Additional parking available in the Long Center garage.

Music Under the Star - Free Concert Series - Friday, Jul 19 & 26 - 6pm to 9pm at Bullock Texas State History Museum
The Bullock Museum is proud to celebrate its 10th season of the free summer concert series, Music Under the Star. Every Friday in July, bring camp chairs and blankets (no coolers, please) and dance the evening away to the hottest sounds in Austin. The museum's exhibits will be open and free to the public during the concerts. The Bullock Texas State History Museum is proud to celebrate its tenth season of outstanding Texas music with the annual free summer concert series, Music Under the Star. Every Friday in July, bring your camp chairs and blankets (but no coolers, please) and dance the evening away to the hottest sounds in Austin. This free concert series features a fantastic line-up of Texas musicians who will play from 6 to 9 pm on the Bullock Museum's Lone Star Plaza. In between sets, cool off with a trip through the exhibits, which will be free and open to the public during the concerts. The Story of Texas Cafe will be serving a limited menu on the plaza and RK will have beer and wine for sale. Sponsors: Frost BankKUT/X, and The Austin Chronicle

Family Activities
July 5 - Natural Ear Music School will be showcasing their instruments and students, they will have some instruments for the public to try out as well.
July 12 - Kids will decorate wooden star cutouts and turn them into wearable art: pins, necklaces, bolo ties and more!
July 19 - TBA
July 26 - Using original stencils and artwork, families will create vintage-style postcards that share what Texas, Texas music and the Bullock Museum mean to them. Then, we'll drop 'em in the mail!
 

Alamo Drafthouse Summer Kids Camp - Tickets to all of the Summer Kids Camp movies are free, but will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reserved seating is not available for these showtimes. A ticket must be picked up at the Box Office before entering the theater.  Customers are encouraged to arrive early to snag tickets and then head into the theater for custom family-friendly pre-show entertainment appropriate for all ages. Summer Kids Camp screenings are open to audience members age 3 and up. Infants may only attend Baby Day screenings (on Tuesdays). All children must be accompanied by an adult.
