Notoriously Awesome Area Events - February 2016
Groundhog Day is almost upon us! Get ready to Pennsylvania Polka and plan for that other holiday that happens later (something to do with heart-shaped candies and expensive dinners, we think). Here’s what you can expect in the month to come in Austin:
February Cooking Class: Solyanka - February 1 - 6:30 PM - Russian House
Learn to make an awesome traditional soup at the Russian House downtown. Apparently, there’s some speculation that it started out as a hangover food. Tickets are $11.54 online.
Emma, a Mixed-media Art Collection by Ash Almonte - February 2 - 27 - 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM - Russell Collection Fine Art Gallery
Combining the feelings of motherhood with raw emotion on canvas, Ash Almonte brings her collection to Austin, named after her daughter Emma. There will be a reception with the artist open to the public on Saturday, February 6. Remember to RSVP if you plan to attend!
ATX Youth Summit 2016 - Monday, February 15 - 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM - George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center
The Women in Jazz Association is bringing an artistic learning experience to the youth of Austin. This event will include workshops on vocal performance, dance, and fitness. The event is free to the public, designed for ages 8 - 18.
Austin Marathon and Half-Marathon - Sunday, February 14 - 7:00 AM - Downtown Austin
It’s been a year already! The Austin Marathon is back, this time on Valentine’s Day. It’s a great way to work up an appetite for a carb-heavy romantic dinner. Registration is open until February 8.
Austin’s No-Kill Anniversary Party - Saturday, February 20 - 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM - 1409 W. 3rd St.
We’ve been a no-kill city for five years now! Austin Pets Alive will be celebrating this milestone with a party, complete with raffles, an open air photo booth, and an Airstream trailer for a VIP reception. This is a people-only event, so pets should stay at home.
Outdoor Kids 2016 - Saturday, February 27 - 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM - El Buen Samaritano
Interested in some free rock-climbing, archery, and outdoor activities? El Buen Samaritano would like to encourage Austin area families to get outside and enjoy physical activity with this event. There’s even Zumba!
